Player Spotlight - Todd Stock

WEYER: After a slow start to the 2014 season, you took third place at the Masters and then won the following tournament at Oakhurst Country Club. To what do you attribute your recent success?

  • STOCK: Probably being fitted for new clubs. It helped with the trajectory of my ball flight. We also setup the driver so that my misses were to the right, but not as drastic a fade as it used to be. Getting fitted at Taylor Made at Bridges helped a lot.

  • WEYER: With your win at Oakhurst, you also achieved two notable milestones – all time wins leader and most improved since joining the league. What’s your game plan for retaining your competitive edge in both regards going forward?

  • STOCK: Keeping an eye on Jebber for one (now second place in all time wins). I feel more comfortable with my ball striking, so now I want to work on chipping to get up and down more often.

  • WEYER: What other goals have you set for yourself in 2014 and beyond?

  • STOCK: I think I’ve won the Pattersmore 2 or 3 times in a row and want to keep that streak alive for sure. The only other major that’s alluded me is the CEGA championship, so I’d like to perform better in that.

  • WEYER: If you could pull together the attributes of different CEGA members to form one super player, what would they be and who would they come from?

  • STOCK: Mr. Boss’s distance on his drive. Mr. Weyer and Mr. Reilly’s driving accuracy. Mr. Rainero’s ability to recover from trouble. Mr. Bjuhr’s chipping around the green. Mr. Netherton’s abilities as a grinder regardless of his score. Those are the ones that standout.

  • WEYER: Other than Todd Stock, which CEGA player has the best chance to win the 2014 POTY race and what are his odds?

  • STOCK: Let’s see…I’d have to say Weyer at 5:1 odds, Leff at 9:1, and Segale at 12:1. Wait, how many players are in the league? 12 guys? Fuck it…we’re going with that.

  • WEYER: OK. Rapid fire time. Jack or Arnie?

  • STOCK: Jack.

  • WEYER: Tiger or Phil?

  • STOCK: Tiger.

  • WEYER: Caddy Shack or Tin Cup?

  • STOCK: Tin Cup.

  • WEYER: Bayonet or Blackhorse?

  • STOCK: Blackhorse.

  • WEYER: Favorite golf catch phrase?

  • STOCK: When someone hits the shot they wanted to – I call that Channel 1…On Demand.

  • WEYER: Perfect song to rock before a round?

  • STOCK: That’s going to have to be Eminem’s “Lose Yourself.” I’ve probably seen 8 Mile seven or eight times.

  • WEYER: What’s the most ridiculous golf training aid you’ve every purchased?

  • STOCK: Some piece of shit plastic thing that was supposed to help keep your elbow in. It was terrible.

  • WEYER: You have a pair of deuces. Joe Daddy pushes all in blind before the flop. Call or fold?

  • STOCK: (Laughs) Depends on how much he’s been drinking…

  • WEYER: You’re leading the team points race heading into the final round of the season. If you could pick any CEGA player to be your partner, who would it be and why?

  • STOCK: I think that would be you, my friend, because I think we’re at 80% for the W’s. Plus, I gotta make you the beneficiary of some of these answers since you’re asking the questions (Laughs).

  • WEYER: Johnny Miller has to bet his life on one player making an eight foot putt. Who does he pick – the 1972 version of Jack Nicklaus, the 2000 version of Tiger Woods, or the 2014 version of Todd Stock?

  • STOCK: Ha. Wow…that’s a close one, but I’m gonna have to give it to Tigre though.
