Leffler Wins 2014 POTY, Cashes Out

Brian Leffler walked onto the first tee of the Nicklaus Club like a blackjack player holding 16 against the dealer's 12. With an injured wrist and a slim lead on the Player of the Year race, Leffler needed the leading contenders to bust...and got his wish.

Todd Stock, Chris Bjuhr, Andy Barbano, and Andy Weyer were all mathematically alive for the POTY race heading into the last tournament of the season, but weren't able to get it done. Instead, darkhorse Bryan Segale emerged from obscurity to claim the CEGA Championship and his first victory since the 2012 season. Tim Netherton showed flashes of 2006 -- otherwise known as the "Year of the Neth" -- and finished a close second. Weyer entered the day with the tournament lead, but never recovered from an opening double-bogey and ultimately finished in third. Jeb Boss rounded out the pack at fourth.

After the cards fell into place, Leffler decided to take the money and run. With a baby on the way and a brutal 2014 season that clearly took a toll on his body, Leffler decided to hang 'em up for the 2015 season...but promises a return in 2016. The Kinders crew certainly won't mind that the "Jolly Green Giant" will have to pass along The Masters jacket. Others around the table are similarly relieved to see the guy sitting on third base and eating the dealer's bust cards take a break from the action.
