Half Moon Baller

What an amazing and special day at Half Moon Bay! The weather was absolutely perfect and the greens were rolling true on both courses. CEGA legend Chris Bjuhr even mentioned that the greens were the best we played all year. The players started the day on the gorgeous and treacherous Ocean Course from the tips. Group #1 (Zep, Segale, Hill and Brady Boss) started the first tee striping their tee shots down the middle -- leaving short irons shots to the green. Segale balled the first round striping tee shots and finding ways to get up and down. Hill putted lights out during the first round, dropping a 70 foot bomb on Hole #16. Boss played solid all round but had a blow up hole which set him back. Zep was just lurking during the first round...nothing great, but nothing bad. After the first round, CEGA was treated to one of the closest tournaments in recent memory.

1st Round Leaderboard

J. Boss - +2

A. Weyer - +3

J. Rainero +4

B. Segale +4

C. Bjuhr +4

C. Zepponi +4

B. Boss +10

The championship round was played at the Old Course ( 7,000 yards). 1st Group featured Rainero, Zepponi, Boss and Hill. 2nd Group featured leaders J. Boss, Weyer, Segale, and Bjuhr. The course was playing tough, with many blind, dogleg tee shots. After the front 9, many players began to fall back. Zep rises and plays solid, particular from 70 yards into the green. J. Boss highlights the round with an eagle on the Par 5 fifth. After 13 holes, the rumor mill begins - that Zepponi is leading the charge. Brady reminds Zep on every hole. The pressure mounts. Zep finds trouble on the extremely tough 16th, but sticks a short iron within 12 feet and walks away with a double. After the punishing 16th, players began to relax a bit and take in the beautiful views . The players are then treated to maybe to the best finishing hole in golf -- the scenic 18th. Rainero bombs his tee shot. Zep follows with a mini-bomb of his own down the middle. A PGA type gallery of about 200 people around the green adds to the exciting moment. Zep sinks his 4 foot putt and finishes -1 in the 2nd round and win the Battle of the Bay! He is just grateful to be a part of a truly memorable day with a bunch of great friends.
