2020 Masters Recap

Thanks everybody for making it a great weekend in Copperopolis! Lots of laughs, drinks, sidebets, and fun golf in a great setting that never disappoints. Tommy, you were greatly missed! See you soon at the next event!

MVP of the weekend goes to Joe Rainero. Bringing up the ribeyes and enough food to feed an army when we had uncertainty about our eating situation. Friday night steaks, making breakfast both mornings, sandos for lunch...Grabbing the dinner tab on Saturday was so generous and so very much appreciated! Thank you Joe. Casino Rainero's blackjack table was rocking late Saturday night. Joe took second place In the poker tournament with smart, aggressive play, and second place in the Masters, with a sizzling -5 on Sunday to get to the playoff...great playing, Joe.

And can't say enough about the grillmaster, Chris Bjuhr. Veej, the Friday night steaks were amazing, and all the sides you prepared for us - the asparagus, carrots, potatoes, shishito peppers...what an incredible spread! Badass.

Enjoyed Andy Barbano's Friday night One Club Challenge after dinner, walking a couple holes in the dark with everyone while I flailed about aimlessly with my 6-iron. AB went with the driver off the deck, which was ballsy. Meanwhile, Bryan Segale had the right idea with his 5-wood and deservedly took it down.

As it turned out, I had the pleasure of playing all 3 rounds with Jeb and Bryce and very much enjoyed the company. Jeb, your front nine on Saturday was a thing of beauty, making 9 straight pars for 36 to start, en route to an opening 78 (-3), the low round of the weekend, and the first round lead - solid. And playing with Bryce for the first time, I can confirm that the rumors about our newest member are true - this guy can play! The booming drives, and holing out for eagle (!) from 150+ on our first hole of the bonus 9 on Friday to help us beat Brady and Segale. Very impressive stuff. Thanks also to Bryce for bringing up all that great wine to share. That double magnum never had a chance, and the bottles at Saturday's dinner complemented our meal perfectly.

Brady, congrats on taking down the poker tourney, edging out Joe at the end - great playing and well deserved. You busted me out pretty early, so that I was free to get drenched by the sprinklers during the 18th green short-game contest...felt good. Hoping the poker prize money more than covers a new driver shaft. Was sorry to hear of its early demise on Saturday.

Thanks as always to our webmaster, Andy Weyer, for tracking scores and handicaps. It's a thankless task but he makes it look so easy. AW's live leaderboard debut was a hit this weekend - was fun to see what everyone was doing in real time, and I hope this becomes a staple of future CEGA events. Thanks for setting it all up, AW. I know you didn't play like you hoped to this weekend, but with your massive POTY lead and couple victories this year coming in, you're still setting the pace.

Good job AB (3rd place) and Jeb (4th) for grabbing points.

I had a great time this weekend and was lucky to squeak out a win!
